Fishing gear What to buy?

I have fished in lakes and streams before but i just moved to Groton Ct. I will be fishing off of a peir at the end of the thames river leading into the ocean. I am unfamiliar with what fish i should be trying to catch and what gear i would need. I have heard that the water is not fresh water or salt water but a mix. I am mainly fishing for the purpose of eating. Also if anyone has any info on lobster catching it would be apreciated. Using my phone to write this so sry for the typos and such Thanks in advance.
