Is Texas a backward State?

HI guys and girls,I am an Indian.First of all I don't mean any offense or sort of racism.I am from INdia and have heard a lot about texas being a backward state.America is a prosperous country and Americans are economically in all sense proper .But what's backward then???American states have enough employment and are sufficiently literate.Their economy is good..They have good employment their.So that's strange??Please tell in what sense is it backward and which other states are backward and how.Best answer=10 points ::))
