Can anyone sufficiently describe to me just how ridiculous ancient astronaut 'theory' is?

Just as ridiculous as medicine in the 1800's. Verily, mercury was used topically as a cure for syphilis, and arsenic was also another ancient medicine. That may be after when the aliens supposedly visited, but still just as absurd.
